There is a lot of buzz about skilled relaxation and Costochondritis. Skilled Relaxation is the continued practice of relaxation techniques. We all have a flight or fight response to stress...so skilled relaxation is a coping tool for the stress we have each day. It teaches us when we are stressed or have increased pain, to relax instead of bracing.
Will it heal costochondritis? I have no clue. I wish. =) The jury is still out for me. However, we all know the second we get stressed out, the Costo pain gets worse, way worse, due to the bracing. S.R. teaches us to relax instead of tensing. Good Stuff. Stress is really hard on our bodies and we don't want to give our bodies any reason to increase our pain.
Better to spend 20 minutes a day teaching your mind and body to relax than to spend it focused on the pain.
